Course Objectives:

The students will be able:

To present basic dance history through the use of internet, media, and print material.

To provide learning opportunities for verbal and physical presentation related to a variety of dance styles.

To present basic patterns and sequences for developing proper body mechanics.

To provide students with a variety of dance experiences which explore the concepts of Laban fundamentals; (space, shape, time, and effort).

To demonstrate a clear understanding of the musicality when dancing.

To perform dances of various cultures. To encourage creativity and collaboration.

Policies:

All students should be registered and check in and classes paid for at the front desk, before taking any class.

Students should be at class 10 minutes prior to the start of class.
Parents/Guardians must be on time to collect their kids after
classes. If another family member is picking up your child, please call or send a note prior to the pick-up.

No videotaping of classes, unless permitted by the Artistic Director.
All monthly payments should be made at the beginning of each month.

Payments are Non-Refundable. If student is unable to attend 2 or more classes in a month due to health problems, then a doctor’s note should process re-entry to class.

Pictures and video-recordings of students will be used for the dance company’s promotional advertisement.

A picture and video-recording disclaimer will be provided for parent’s signatures, for students under 18 years.

Rules:

Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face and neck.

No jewelry! On hands or necks. Stoppers or small earrings are acceptable.

Only water is allowed in the Dance Studio.

No chewing of gum in the dance studio.

All trash should be place in the bins provided outside the studio.

All electronics should be on silent or turned-off, during class.

No excessive and loud taking in the studio, especially during class.

When leaving dance class, please put on shoes and sweat pants.

All visitors should be seated in the lobby area unless coming to try-out for classes.

Be respectful to self, peers and teachers at all times.

Student Outcomes:

After taking classes with IRDTC, the students will be able:
To possess a basic knowledge of dance history.

To articulate and communicate through the use of gesture, dramatic intent and imagery.

To develop skills in dance placement, balance, movement transitions and fundamental dance vocabulary.

To understand the concept of space, shape and energy effort as it relates to a specific dance form.

To understand basic time signatures, counts, beats, tempo, rhythm and dynamics particular to each form explored in class.

To dance the basic patterns and formations of dance from the different cultures.

To demonstrate appropriate behavior and etiquette in the dance classroom.
